Building Code Enforcement

The purpose of the Cherokee County Office of Building Code Enforcement is to promote and maintain the minimum requirements to safeguard the public health, safety and general welfare of the Citizens of Cherokee County and this State.

The goal of the Cherokee County Board of Elections is to provide lawful, efficient, and timely execution of all elections.

E-911 Communications

Cherokee County E-911 Communications is a state of the art facility. We employ the latest technology and cutting edge life – safety practices designed to provide citizens and visitors of Cherokee County with the care and protection you deserve. Cherokee County E-911 received its first 911 call February 25, 2000. By having all Emergency 911 calls routing to a single location, it eliminated the chance of a 911 call being lost and greatly reduced the time to dispatch the appropriate agency and response time to the emergency location. In 2021, a total of 73,688 calls for service was requested through Cherokee County E-911 Communications Center.

Finance

The Cherokee County Finance Department operates an accounting and reporting system in compliance with NC General Statute 159 (Local Government Budget and Fiscal Control Act) and other NC General Statutes, Federal laws, and regulations.

Governing Board

Health Department

The mission of the Cherokee County Health Department is to assess, address, and assure the public health needs of Cherokee County citizens.

Historical Museum

The museum reflects the life of the Cherokee Indian during the time of the Cherokee Nation before their removal along the "Trail of Tears" to Oklahoma.

Sheriff's Office

The Mission of the Cherokee County Office of the Sheriff is to preserve life, encourage voluntary compliance with the laws of this state, prevent crimes, hold offenders accountable and promote community well being. We will continue to perform these duties by providing resourceful patrols, quality investigations, distinctive correctional and emergency services, community oriented programs and victim advocate support using innovative solutions in order to build partnerships within the community and the citizens we serve.

Social Services

The Cherokee County Department of Social Services provides the residents of Cherokee County with Federal and State mandated Human Services. The mission of this Department, as set forth by the County Commissioners, is "to serve the citizens of Cherokee County efficiently and effectively with compassionate and positive attitudes in order to enable these citizens to realize the need to strive for self-sufficiency which in turn fosters a more positive self-image, thus improving their quality of life."
