Meet your Sheriff
Dustin D. Smith was elected Sheriff in 2022, and was sworn in on December 5, 2022.
Sheriff Smith was born and raised in Cherokee County and has worked in Law Enforcement in Cherokee County since 2000. He graduated BLET in 1999 and the entirety of his law enforcement career has been serving the citizen of Cherokee County. Before he was elected Sheriff, he was Assistant Chief for Murphy Police Department.
When he's not at work, you can find the Sheriff involved in his community through various events or he is spending quality time with his family and friends enjoying the beautiful mountains, lakes and streams in Cherokee County.
Sheriff Smith is proud to serve Cherokee County and its citizens.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Office of the Sheriff of Cherokee County is to preserve life, encourage voluntary compliance with the laws of this state, prevent crimes, hold offenders accountable and promote community well being. We will continue to perform these duties by providing resourceful patrols, quality investigations, distinctive correctional and emergency services, community oriented programs and victim advocate support using innovative solutions in order to build partnerships within the community and the citizens we serve.
