Pay: $13.65 per hour
Status: Part time without benefits but may become full-time

Description: This position involves providing emergent and non-emergent medical care to ill and injured citizens and guests of Cherokee County using Advanced Life Support protocols. Work involves assessing patients, taking patient histories, administering treatment and medications, providing life saving treatments such as CPR and RSI and transporting patients to medical facilities and landing zones in certain circumstances.
Minimum Training and Experience: Requires High School Diploma or GED and EMT-Intermediate certification. Prefer applicants with ACLS-EP, ITLS, PALS, BCLS certifications. Employee must complete continuing education annually sufficient to keep certifications current.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to follow written EMS protocols in the delivery of emergent medical care to patients who fall or are injured in Cherokee County.
Possession of EMT-Intermediate certification from the State of North Carolina.
Working knowledge of emergency medical procedures and techniques.
Working knowledge of equipment and supplies employed in the emergency care of patients and victims of accidents.
Working knowledge of the geographical layout of the county and the location of roads and streets throughout the county.
Working knowledge of radio communications equipment.
Ability to deal tactfully, courteously and firmly with the public.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other agencies and the public.
Ability to assess the extent of injuries or illness of patients and to respond appropriately to them.
Knowledge of proper Advanced Life Support procedures needed to provide appropriate medical care.
Knowledge of defensive driving techniques.
Physical Requirements: Must be in good physical condition as job requires strenuous activity, which includes lifting 200 pounds and greater. Must be able to lift a minimum of 200 pounds with assistance from another individual.
Work may involve working in confined areas and requires the physical agility to respond to wilderness accidents.
Work requires lifting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions.
Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound.
Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities.
The job may risk exposure to extreme heat and/or cold, bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife, vibrations, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, electrical shock, contact with bodily fluids and medical contaminants.
