Description: Prepares food such as breads, meats, vegetables, desserts and salads.
Prepares meals for serving or delivery.
Estimates amounts of food and containers needed; maintains records and inventory.
Places requests for orders of supplies and food to departmental clerk.
Cleans, washes, sterilizes and scrubs large and small kitchen equipment.
Prepares food in accordance with rules and regulations; observes any special dietary or health considerations.
Prepares periodic forms and reports documenting activities of unit.
Minimum Training and Experience: Requires instruction sufficient for satisfactory job performance and one month up to three months experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires handling or using machines, tools, or equipment requiring little or no prior experience such as kitchen equipment, mops, brooms and similar small items.
Knowledge of proper cleanliness techniques in the handling and preparation of food items.
Ability to do mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division for use in preparing basic reports.
Ability to make decisions as to the quality and quantity of food items being prepared and served.
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, lifting, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive use of kitchen equipment.
Requires normal visual acuity, depth perception, sense of smell and taste, and texture perception.
May be exposed to extremes of high and low temperatures, moving machinery, electrical shocks, and exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals.
