In 1993, Detective Shivers joined the Platte County Missouri Sheriff's Office which was located just outside of Kansas City. After working a year in the Detention Section, Tory was promoted and began working with the Road Patrol Division in Platte County.
In 2002, Tory along with his family, relocated to Cherokee County where he began his career with the Cherokee County Office of the Sheriff. After being hired as a road deputy, Tory was assigned K-9 duty and worked his way to the rank of Sergeant. Tory is a past SERT Team leader and has been trained in Basic, Intermediate and SWAT Command and Leadership. Detective Shivers has also received previous drug training by attending the DEA's Basic Narcotic Officer School and he also attended Clandestine Laboratory courses.
In 2009, Detective Shivers left the Office of the Sheriff to go overseas, where he served as a Police mentor to the Afghan National Police. Tory returned in May 2011 and began working for the Office of the Sheriff as a road deputy, before being promoted to the rank of investigator in August 2011.
